Privacy
How They Differ is a Texas-registered DBA. This page describes what data the site collects and how it is handled.
The short version
The site is a static publication. We use a privacy-focused analytics service (Cloudflare Web Analytics) that does not set cookies and does not track individual visitors. We do not maintain user accounts and do not sell, share, or trade visitor information with anyone for any purpose. We have no advertising and no sponsorship.
What is transmitted when you visit
Three third parties may receive information about your visit by virtue of how the page is served:
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. The site loads a small
analytics beacon from
static.cloudflareinsights.comon page views. Cloudflare Web Analytics is cookieless and does not fingerprint visitors; it reports aggregate data such as page views, referrer, general geographic region, browser, and device type. The publisher uses this data to gauge readership volume and roughly where readers are located — which informs which races to cover next and whether the work is reaching anyone outside the publisher's own state. When your browser requests the beacon, Cloudflare receives your IP address and the standard request headers. Cloudflare's handling of that data is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy. - Google Fonts. The site uses Public Sans and Fraunces,
served from
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com. When your browser requests those font files, Google receives your IP address and the standard request headers. Google's handling of that data is governed by Google's privacy policy. - GitLab Pages. The site is hosted on GitLab Pages, which maintains standard web-server logs (IP address, user agent, request URL, timestamp) for operational and security purposes. GitLab's handling of that data is governed by GitLab's privacy policy.
What we do not collect
We do not set cookies. We do not run advertising trackers. We do not embed social-media widgets. We do not have a contact form that captures data — correspondence comes through the email address below. The Cloudflare beacon described above is the only analytics on the site, and it is cookieless.
Email correspondence
If you email contact@howtheydiffer.com, we retain the message for the purpose of responding and for our records. We do not add correspondents to any mailing list and we do not share messages with third parties unless required by law.
Your data rights
Because the site does not collect personal data directly, there is little data for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. If you believe we hold information about you and would like it accessed, corrected, or deleted — or if you have any other privacy question — email contact@howtheydiffer.com. We respond within 30 days.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Jurisdiction
How They Differ is based in the State of Texas, United States. Any dispute arising out of or relating to this privacy policy is governed by Texas law.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update this page and the "last updated" date below.
